RIDICULOUS THINGS AMERICANS ASK EXCHANGE STUDENTS.

Friday, April 15, 2016 Cristian 39 Comments

Hello guys, some of my fellow exchange students sent me some of the questions americans asked them during their time in the US, I wanted to share them with you because they are really funny. Please know that by posting this I am not judging anyone, I know that everyone can ask stupid questions, regardless where they are from. Take it easy.

Let's start with some Geography..

Is Spain the capital of Italy?
Is Spain next to Singapore?
Brazil is between Germany and Spain, right?
France is in the UK and Paris is in London, right?
Is Norway a city in Nazi-Germany or Europe?
In which part of SOUTH AMERICA is Austria?
Isn't Austria a US state?
Is Austria the capital of Germany?
Is Finland in China?

You said you are from Europe, WHAT IS IT?
Do you speak EUROPEAN in Europe?
How many hours will it take to DRIVE FROM NEW YORK TO PAKISTAN?
How many hours does it take to TRAVEL from the Netherlands to Europe WITH A CAR?

Do you have running water in Denmark?
Do you have bathrooms or do you PEE IN THE BACKYARD?
Do you have chips, iPhones and cars in France?
Do you have kangaroos in AUSTRIA?
Do you have cars and trees in Germany?
Do you have A MOON in Poland?

Do you eat turkey in Turkey?
Why are you WHITE if you are FROM BRAZIL?
Do the leaves of a tree turn colors during fall in Germany?
Since you are German, are you RELATED in any way TO HITLER?
You said you have the moon in France, does that mean there are TWO ON EARTH?

    Is calling you "Mexican" offensive?

Why is your skin so light if you're Mexican?

Are Mexico and Brazil the same thing?

    Mexico isn't in North America.

    Mexico has states?

    Do drug cartels run everything?
Do you have family in the cartel?

    Is food in Mexico spicy?

  10. I am an exchange student from Switzerland in the US.

Most popular question: So Swiss, you're from Sweden, right?
I can understand if you get that wrong, however, one guy INSISTED on Switzerland being the same as Sweden. He argued: I must know, I've lived in Germany on an army base for a year!

Here are some other funny ones:

    You're Swiss, that's awesome, I speak Swedish!
Do you have internet in Swizterland?
Do you have cars in Switzerland? (No, we ride our cows to school)
Do you have planes in Switzerland? (No, I swam across the atlantic ocean to get here)
Did you come here (Switzerland to USA) by train or by car?
Have you ever used a computer?
Do you have electricity in your house?
Do you know how to use money?

My friend is from South Africa, she also gets really funy questions:
    Why are you white?
    Are your parents black?
Where is the border between south and north africa?

    Little conversation:
    -werhe are you from?
    -South Africa
-I'm sorry, I meant, what country are you from?
    -I'm from South Africa
-No, I'm sorry, you don't understand me, I didn't ask what continent, I asked what country you were from
-You don't understand ME, South Africa is a country!
-No, it's not, it's a continent like South America
    -Ugh!

    1. Another friend is from Australia:
So, Australia is part of the European Union?
Is Australia the capital of Austria?
Is Australia and Austria the same country?
Since Australia is on the southern hemisphere, is everything upside down?
What is Australia like, do you have cities?
Why do you speak English so well when you're from Australia?
I heard Sydney, the capital of Australia, is really beautiful!
I eat at the Outback Steakhouse a lot, that's Australian food! (In Australia they got the same and when they go there, they go for American food)

  11. Somehow a bit more bright people in New Zealand (at least the ones I met). but there were a few odd questrions..
    - But all the languages in Europe are so similar that there really is no big difference, right? The languages are basically the same...
well, in that case she should have been able to understand all European languages, as English is one of them. And I do agree that there are some similarities between some of the languages, but that does not mean a Norwegian would understand Russian.

But mostly, nobody really knew about Norway. especially the Americans down under.

    1. "The languages are basically the same" that's like saying Italian and German are similar, or like saying Spanish and Finnish are the same hahaha

  18. Last year our student was asked "Do you write with pencils in Italy?"
Her response was something similar to "No. We prick our fingers and write in blood."
